Here's just 3 of my favourite things I enjoy outside of work…

Travel

Travelling has always been a passion of mine and much of the love story with my wife has involved travel. Pre family life we spent almost all of our annual leave travelling. Our years used to be punctuated with tours of the US West Coast, city breaks to NYC and the obligatory weekends in Ibiza in our younger years. More recently our travel cravings have been calmed by touring the UK and Europe in our VW camper with our son.

Cycling

Ever since learning to ride on two wheels at 2 years old I have adored cycling. It is such a fantastic way to keep fit, get around and generally blow off steam. I mainly ride on road to train for sportives I enter with a friend, but I also ride offroad whenever the chance arises (Wales, Scotland or The Peak District). I’ve even ride a tandem with my wife and son at weekends to keep them both keen.

Productivity & Quantified self

After reading the book Getting Things Done in 2003 I became fascinated with self improvement and generally finding (my) best way to get everything done. It’s partly to do with the fact I’ve always felt like there is never enough time, this book helps change that mindset. However this sent me on a never ending rabbit hole of:-

Never automate something that can be eliminated, and never delegate something that can be automated or streamlined. Otherwise, you waste someone else’s time instead of your own, which now wastes your hard-earned cash. How’s that for incentive to be effective and efficient?
